03 Feb Wedding During the Big Game?
Here’s how to score the best hostess points
There is so much coordination when it comes to picking the perfect wedding date—from agreeing on a time of year, considering important loved-ones schedules, securing a venue for a certain date, and having all of your vendors available. The one thing you might not have considered? The big game. Football, baseball, hockey, and soccer fans around the world go hard for their teams and missing that important game may be a sore subject. If game-time focus is essential, actively avoid big game conflicts from the beginning (instead of late October, try early November and dodge the first Sunday in February if you can). But if there is no way to steer clear of hosting your wedding during the big game and you’re wondering what to do, keep reading!
Shift the time (if you can). If you catch the conflict and have a little flexibility with your venue and vendors, consider shifting the time of your wedding to a little bit earlier or later in the day (depending on your location and time of the event), so guests can both attend your wedding and watch the game.
DJ updates. You’ll likely be on the dance floor during the prime-time event. So ask your emcee to weave in some key game updates into the set list (but avoid play-by-play details).
Embrace it! Are you a die-hard fan and can’t bear to miss it? A strong WiFi signal, a good stream and projector, and all of the party essentials (including jerseys!) will make sure you celebrate your big day and the big game in style.
After party, anyone? Keep the celebration going and bring your after party to a near-by pub to catch the (second) main event.
Don’t mind? Don’t stress! Unless missing the game bothers you, your guests will make appropriate arrangements and the people who matter will show no matter what.
