07 Jul Real Wedding: Emily & Ty
Charming Barn Wedding
Real weddings are so inspiring! To get you in the mood to plan, we asked real brides to spill the details on everything from getting engaged and finding their wedding dresses to the special touches and surprising moments that made their celebrations completely one-of-a-kind. Read on for more details from Emily and Ty’s charming barn wedding.
Briefly tell us how you and your fiancé met! How did you know that he was the one?
We met at a youth group at a local church! I knew he was the one when he told me he knew we were meant to be because it felt like everything about us was made for each other, which I had specifically prayed my future husband would one day say!
Tell us your proposal story!
We were apartment hunting for him, and though the one we were looking at was a bit out of his price range, we were pretending as if he lived in it. Then, he told me he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me, whether it was at that apartment or anywhere else in the world as he put my hand over his heart and I felt a ring in his shirt pocket. Then, he knelt down on one knee in the middle of the empty apartment and asked me to marry him!
How did you both decide on your wedding day look?
We relied heavily on Pinterest boards I had been working on since I was 12! Of course, they needed some refining and modernizing, but my visions of a flowing, floral dress truly came to life in my chosen dress!
Do you have any shopping advice for future brides?
They say when you know you know, and this definitely is the case when it comes to wedding dresses! There is a truly magical feeling when you first see yourself in your perfect dress, so don’t settle until you feel it!
What was your favorite detail about your look?
I loved the floral and tulle! It truly made for a perfect regal feel.
How did you feel when you knew that you #foundtheone?
I was SO. EXCITED.! It truly was a feeling like no other, seeing myself for the first time in the dress.
Tell us about your wedding day!
My wedding day was a dream come true! My whole vision for everything came together PERFECTLY, from the looks of myself, my groom, and our bridal party to the dessert and coffee bars, all the way to the floral detailing and photobooth!
Was there a highlight or most memorable moment of the day?
For me, walking down the aisle with my husband after the ceremony was the most amazing part. Getting to hold the hand of my husband for the first time ever was so amazing, and it made me excited for every adventure we would go on hand-in-hand for the rest of our lives!
Did anything funny or unexpected happen?
I tripped walking down the aisle! It was definitely something we look back at and laugh now.
Is there something you wish you had known before the big day/while you were planning the wedding?
One piece of advice I received about halfway through planning (actually from a David’s Bridal clerk!) but wish I had gotten earlier was that you are the only one who knows the original vision, so if something isn’t EXACTLY perfect, no one else will know! It helped me not to sweat the small stuff so much once I grasped this!
Did you have to make any changes to your wedding plans because of Covid?
We didn’t have to alter anything due to COVID, thankfully! Our wedding was close family and friends only, anyway, and venues were not under much regulation where we held our wedding!
Did you have a first dance song?
Yes, we did! It was Lover by Taylor Swift because we loved how sweet and meaningful it is, and we found that it gave a fun glimpse into our married future!
What flavor was your wedding cake?
Each tier was a different flavor! The top was champagne, the middle was chocolate, and the bottom was classic almond!
What was your favorite DIY or personal touch?
The coffee bar was definitely my favorite part! I am a big time coffee enthusiast, so it was only fitting to have a coffee bar!
What did you do to stay stress free on your wedding day?
Delegation was key to my stress free day! I made sure to assign certain things to trusted people, in addition to just trusting that nothing mattered as long as I got to be with my husband at the end of it all!
What’s your best wedding planning advice? And what advice do you have for brides that are planning their weddings right now?
This is YOUR day! Don’t be afraid to speak up, and if someone else tries to take over, be respectful, but help them to understand that you want things the way YOU want them!
Anything else you’d like to share?
Just remember that in the end, you’re going to be with the person you love the most, so as much as we all want the perfect big day, even if things don’t always go as planned, the end is all that matters!
